Speech Clinic Southern Downs supports children across their childhood and teenage years who live in the Southern Downs location. We are strong advocates for early intervention. It’s critically important to recognise signs of potential speech, language, literacy or social difficulties, as this helps us to minimise future impacts on academic success and a child’s social life.

We’re always asked, “when is the best age to start speech therapy?”. As soon as possible is always best. Speech and Language Pathologists can provide therapy and complete speech pathology assessments to children from 16 months to 18 years old. There is strong evidence supporting early intervention. When a speech therapist can support a child from birth until 4-5 years old, they can reduce the long-term impacts of a communication or language disorder. This gives kids their best chance to be ready for school. Sometimes speech, literacy, fluency, language and social interaction difficulties can become present throughout a child’s schooling years. We also love to support school-aged children and adolescents to reach their full academic and social potential.
