Before working as a speech therapist, I worked as a medical researcher. I worked at the Queensland Brain Institute and Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology. I am currently undertaking a PhD project at The University of Queensland (UQ). This PhD project examines current clinical practices for children with traumatic brain injuries.

As a paediatric speech pathologist, I work with children exclusively. I have experience working with young toddlers through to late-stage teens in a range of areas – speech clarity, complex communication and disability, reading and writing, stuttering, language impairments and social communication.

Kids’ Speech Therapy in Halls Head

Speech Clinic Halls Head provides speech therapy across their childhood and teenage years who live in the Halls Head location. We strongly advocate for early intervention. Recognising signs of potential speech, language, social, or literacy difficulties is important, as this helps us to reduce future impacts on social and academic success.

Should you wait and see?
We are often asked, “when is the best age to start speech therapy?”. As soon as possible is always best. Speech Therapists can provide treatment and complete assessments to kids from 16 months to 18 years old. There is strong evidence supporting early intervention. When a speech therapist can support a child from birth until 4-5 years old, they can reduce the long-term impacts of a communication or language disorder. This gives kids their best chance to be ready for school. Sometimes speech, literacy, fluency, language and social interaction difficulties can become apparent throughout a child’s schooling years. We love to support school-aged kids to reach their academic and social potential.

Our early years communication development seminar slides will become available for download here, later today. If you attended this seminar and have…

An Introduction to DiRFloortime®

By understanding a child’s unique individual differences, appreciating their unique developmental stage and what sparks their joy and interest, we can follow their lead to support their language, cognitive and socio-emotional growth. We recently had the opportunity to engage in PD with DiR-experts travelling from the United States. As we are strong advocates for relationship-based intervention, especially for children presenting with complex communication profiles and social interaction challenges, we loved…

Higher Level Language Development

With April Fool’s Day just passing, it’s hard for speech pathologists to not think about the significance of humour. While many people do not necessarily realise, humour is actually a skill that draws upon many language areas. As a result, many children that present with language delays and disorders can have a significant difficulty both understanding and using humour with their peers - and this is essentially because many areas…
