It’s critically important to recognise signs of potential speech, language, literacy or social difficulties, as this helps us to minimise future impacts on social and academic success.

Frequently, we’re asked, “when is the best age to start speech therapy?”. As soon as possible is always best. Speech Pathologists can provide treatment and complete assessments to children from 16 months to 18 years old. There is strong evidence supporting early intervention. When a speech therapist can support a child from birth until 4-5 years old, they can reduce the long-term impacts of a communication or language disorder. This provides children with the best chance to be school-ready. Sometimes speech, language, literacy, fluency and social interaction difficulties can become noticeable throughout a child’s schooling years. We also love supporting school-aged children to reach their academic and social potential.
