It’s critically important to recognise signs of potential speech, language, literacy or social difficulties, as this helps us to reduce future impacts on social and academic success.

Should we wait and see?
We’re always asked, “when is the best age to start speech therapy?”. As soon as possible is always best. Speech and Language Pathologists can provide therapy and complete speech pathology assessments to kids from 16 months to 18 years old. There is strong evidence supporting early intervention. When a speech therapist can support a child from birth until 4-5 years old, they can reduce the long-term impacts of a communication or language disorder. This gives kids their best chance to be ready for school. Sometimes speech, language, literacy, fluency and social interaction difficulties can become noticeable throughout a child’s schooling years. We love to support school-aged children and adolescents to reach their academic and social potential.
